"Pose theft" is when you use a pose or composition similar to that of someone else's piece. Here is an example:

Pose theft/pose references

I don't believe in "pose theft" for say, because no one can own a pose, and composition is also something that can't really be owned, and if you compare a ton of different pieces of art, you'll notice a lot of compositional similarities, because it's just geometry. There is a point however, when "pose theft" is more like pure idea theft, and that can be seen here:

NOT MY WORK

This raises the question, "where do you draw the line between theft of intellectual property and using something as a reference or inspiration?" Well here is a "journal" sacredflamingheart wrote on DeviantArt that I think really sums up what is exceptable and what is not : What *Is* Art Plagiarism?

Keeping that in mind, I'd appreciate it if you followed these guidelines when it comes to my work:

  • You can use my poses for reference as long as you're not tracing every detail. ONLY THE NECESSARY AMOUNT NEEDED FOR ANATOMICAL STRUCTURE. I understand that anatomy is hard, so I really don't mind if you use my poses.

  • There should be a very clear difference between your work and mine. Just think of it this way when comparing them: "Is this my work, or is this still theirs?" "Will other people be able to tell them apart?"

NOT MY WORK

PERSONAL USE POLICY

I'm fairly light about my rules in which my art can be used. I mainly only request that I be credited wherever possible and that my signature remains within the crop of the image wherever it is used.

Here are some guidelines I request be followed in different circumstances:

reposting/social media

I prefer none of my work is reposted online, especially if you are not doing it for my benefit but for yours alone, but this is all I request:

  • include my signature within the crop of the image

  • include "Art by Ronnie the Seagoat" in the description and tag me wherever possible (see my contact page for my handles/aliases)

  • DO NOT claim it as your own work. Or I will probably cancel you /hj

Pink Salt

When using my work as an OC reference or faceclaim, the same guidelines apply as when posting online.

  • If you're using it as a faceclaim/ OC reference, please specify that it is a faceclaim and not an original design of your character unless it was a request you made. (You can say it's an original design of your OC if you asked me to draw that character for you, otherwise please specify that it was my design.) (If you would like me to draw a character for you, please request it in the request form here.)

  • I request this because a lot of the characters I draw are of my own design and are my OC's used for roleplay and my stories and novels.

  • IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO DRAW MY OC's then be my guest! Just make sure to specify the OC's name and that it is my OC (include: Original Character by Ronnie the Seagoat) and tag me wherever possible. I understand that people like to make fanart of my stories and such so the same rules apply there except make sure to include what the character is from :)
